The real blocker: what to talk about

Most people stall before they start because they are searching for a topic. Remove that step with a small set of go-to prompts you can reuse. Familiar prompts free your attention for the actual skill — taking turns, keeping the thread, and recovering when you lose a word.

Start with prompts you have real opinions about, so the words come from meaning rather than memory:

  • Describe your day and one thing you would change about it.
  • Explain a decision you made recently and why.
  • Argue for a film, city, or habit you like — then argue the opposite.
  • Walk through how you would solve a small problem at work.

How to run one conversation session

  1. Pick one prompt and set a small goal. For example, keep the conversation going for three turns without switching to your first language.
  2. Let the exchange happen. With an AI partner you can interrupt and re-organize freely; the point is to stay in the turn.
  3. Notice one recurring stall. A phrase you avoid, a tense you dodge, a sound that slips.
  4. Review just that one thing. Send it to the review queue and rehearse it before the next session.

A session is a success if it finishes and leaves one reviewable item — not if it was flawless.

Scenarios worth rehearsing

ScenarioWhat to practice
Small talk / everydayOpeners, follow-up questions, and keeping a thread going.
Job interviewStructured answers to common questions and asking for clarification.
Business / meetingsStating a position, disagreeing politely, and summarizing next steps.
TravelRequests, directions, and handling a misunderstanding.

You can describe the scenario in your own language first, then run it in English — useful when you know the situation but not yet the phrasing.

What it can and can't do

FluentDojo is a browser-based AI English conversation and pronunciation partner — no native app to download. Free users get 3 voice sessions per day and 20 per month after sign-up; members get 15 per day and 200 per month. Quotas describe available sessions, not results. It is not a teacher, medical, or counseling service, and does not promise fluency, a hiring outcome, or an exam score.
