Rehearse the three-part shape

The speaking test has a predictable structure. Practising each part's shape — not memorised answers — is what removes the surprise on test day.

  • Part 1 — short familiar questions about you (home, work, hobbies). Practice answering in two to three sentences, not one word.
  • Part 2 — the long turn: one minute to prepare, then speak for up to two minutes from a task card. Practice keeping going without long silences.
  • Part 3 — a two-way discussion of broader ideas linked to Part 2. Practice explaining, comparing, and giving reasons.

Memorised answers tend to hurt more than help; examiners notice them, and the goal is natural, flexible speaking. Rehearse the shape and your own real ideas.

What the format is really testing

Practising out loud lets you work on the things the format rewards, in your own words:

FocusHow to practice it
Keeping going (fluency)Do the Part 2 long turn end to end; notice where you stall and rehearse a bridge.
Range of languageRe-say one answer using a different structure or a more precise word.
PronunciationUse per-sentence feedback on the sounds and words you repeat most.
Extending answersAdd one reason or example to every Part 1 answer instead of stopping short.

A simple weekly routine

  1. One Part 2 long turn per session. Prepare for one minute, then speak for up to two — timed.
  2. Review one thing only. A stall, a repeated filler, or a mispronounced key word.
  3. Re-run it cleaner. Same idea, one improvement, so the fix becomes noticeable.
  4. Add a few Part 1 and Part 3 questions. Keep answers extended and reasoned.

What it can and can't do

FluentDojo is a browser-based AI English speaking and pronunciation partner — no native app to download. Free users get 3 voice sessions per day and 20 per month after sign-up; members get 15 per day and 200 per month. It can support IELTS-style speaking practice, but it is not the exam, is not affiliated with any test provider, and does not predict, estimate, or guarantee a band score.
